making work visible: product concept Scenario is the resulting conceptual prototype. It is one approach which uses visualization and prototyping techniques to help people think about and build a comprehensive picture of work-- one that includes representations of informal forms of knowledge. It begins by asking a simple question of everyone in the workplace, "What's my role, and where do I fit in?" Using Scenario, individuals or groups can answer that question by creating dynamic work stories through a collaborative, iterative process. Over time the stories create a unique database-- a group memory or collective intelligence-- of company systems, company culture and company know-how. Scenario demonstrated Workware's strategy for achieving several key product goals-- to help capture informal knowledge and make it sharable, to promote community and to support the construction of work practices. |
